Have you ever blown a shofar?

Do you own a shofar and use it to usher in the presence of the Lord?

In the Bible, whenever you see the word trumpet mentioned to call the people to assembly, or in a warning or a call to war, it is the Hebrew word Shofar. There are a couple of instances where a silver trumpet is mentioned, but they were metal instruments that were used in the service of God’s Temple. The following is a result of a search for the definition of Shofar on the Internet:

The Shofar is a trumpet made of an animal’s horn, preferably a Ram’s horn.

The Shofar is traditionally played during the month of Elul, which is the last month in the Hebrew calendar, and during the first ten days of the Hebrew year (the days between Rosh Hashana and Yom Kippur). A person should hear 100 blasts from the shofar on each day of Rosh HaShana.

There are three sounds made with the shofar:

  • Tekiah – One long blast
  • Shevarim – Three shorter blasts
  • Teruah – A series of quick blasts

The significance of the Shofar

The sound of the shofar stirs our hearts to repentance.

We blow the shofar to show that we accept God as our king, as it says in Psalms 98:6, “With trumpets and the sound of the shofar make a call out before the King, God”.

Want to join a team of shofar blowers to kick off Heaven Fest 2012 this year?

Do you have what it takes?  Here’s our vision:

Shofar blowers will be positioned on each of the 7 stages inside the festival. Shofar blowers, with their families surrounding them, will also stand around the outside of the fence of the festival grounds, simultaneously blowing at 11 am to signal Heaven Fest – welcoming the King of Kings!

If you have a shofar and know how to use it -

Please contact Frank Buck at guardian2825@gmail.com and place in the subject line “SHOFAR HF”. Or call him at 970-215-8913 and leave a voice message if you are interested in joining the team of shofar blowers on the day of Heaven Fest.  We are so excited about this! We are seeking those who are excellent with the shofars, mostly excellent in heart - positioned toward ushering the presence of the Lord.

Heaven Fest aims to increase adoptions, crush fear and hate

Excerpts from The Examiner.

An article by: Steve Rees

Seeking to communicate the “Father heart of God” to this generation through music and outreach at home and abroad, Heaven Fest intends to focus on two key issues this election year: adoption and government.

The latter surprised even Powers, but orphan care and adoption is part of Heaven Fest’s DNA.

According to Heaven Fest’s Powers, adoption communicates the “father heart of God” because the bible teaches that all believers – young and old – are joined together as a family by God’s decision to “adopt” them.

Adoption is an obvious and nice fit with Heaven Fest’s vision and partners, but when Powers sensed that God was leading him to focus on government, it provided another surprise.

In an election year, when fear-mongering will reach fever pitch, the last thing Powers wanted to do was focus on government.

Given that Heaven Fest has been a “giant, laboratory experiment in being an obedient son,” Powers decided compliance was his only option.

So again this year when the bands have played their last set, a nameless, faceless, back-lit band will take center stage, replacing celebrity musicians with the true headliner: Jesus Christ.

“I felt as though God was saying, ‘I want you to invite my kids into a time of repentance,’ ” Powers said.

“I sensed God was saying that too many of his kids have forgotten they’re first his followers, before they’re Americans,” Powers said.

“They’ve also forgotten that they’re followers of mine before they’re members of a political party,” Powers believes God told him.

In a year when $1 billion will be spent on the presidential election, catering to the one core motivational emotion of fear, too many Christians “hang out on Friday night with hatred, scheming up ways to beat the crud out of their political enemies.”

“Jesus is not a fan of fear (or hatred),” Powers said.

The repentance, Powers said, will be a way of saying, “Hey, Lord, we want to be friends with you; Sorry for being friends with your enemies.”

Want to skateboard?

Want to skate at Heavenfest?  We are pleased once again this year to be working with Pastor Uriel Luebcke and his skate ministry team at the Heaven Fest Skate Park.  Skateministry.org is bringing their portable skate park! There will be professional skateboard demos throughout the day. There will also be free open skate sessions throughout the day but you must have a legal guardian fill out a HEAVENFEST SKATEBOARD WAIVER in order to skate.

The Skate Park is located directly in front of the 1st National Bank Building at The Ranch.

The Heaven Fest Skate Park is open to all ages however, children under 18 years of age must download the waiver form by clicking on the link above and bring it the day of Heaven Fest with a parent’s signature.

Heaven Fest recommends helmets, elbow and knee pads and other safety articles of clothing in order to receive the maximum enjoyment from this area of the festival. These items as well as skateboards themselves are not provided.

A little about URIEL LUEBCKE, pastor

I am a skateboard missionary/evangelist/preacher/pastor with a testimony of gods grace and power. I’m happily married to a beautiful woman named Emily and we have 2 wonderful, busy children named Makena and Judah.

I’ve been a skateboarder for over 25 years and have been in the industry for 20, with 15 years at the professional level. Actively doing skate ministry for the past 13 years, I have used this platform as a pro skateboarder to share the message of Christ to the dark skateboard culture. I have traveled all over the world including Brazil 3 times, Africa, Ukraine, Spain, Canada, Mexico, Jamaica, Cayman Islands and all over America sharing Christ through skate demo’s and street evangelism.

Recently, my ministry has been blessed with a building with a skate park to rent. Every Friday we do skate church: we worship and preach Christ. Our mission is to make disciples, training them to be skating evangelists. I am a gnarly dude and don’t fit the typical mold of a youth pastor. I get super crazy, take kids skating in my skate bus and we rock DA reggae music—making the gospel relevant to the kids out there. I don’t roll with a suit and tie, I roll dreaded and dangerous with DA gospel proclaiming Him as LORD OF THE BOARD!! BAH BAH!

Uriel has been featured in prominent magazines including Transworld, Thrasher, and Slap; and in over 15 skate videos. He has been invited to and won numerous skating competitions, including the Globe Wild Card series in Los Angeles winning a chance to skate against the world’s best in Australia, at the Globe World Cup.

Are you an encourager?

Do you have the gift of encouragement?  Want to be the first person volunteers encounter after check in? Want to be that person with the big smile who will lift up the volunteers for their service and set the tone of the festival with a great attitude?  Do you have what it takes to motivate the volunteer team and explain a little bit about what they’re in for?

Picture this… You’ll start in an air conditioned building with indoor restrooms. You’ll then head outside to deliver your volunteers to the places where they will serve. And finally, you’ll have the chance to rock their souls with encouragement, prayer and thanks.

If this is an area in which you’d like to serve, please sign up to volunteer under the job description Human Resources – Volunteer Distribution at www.heavenfest.com/volunteer

We’re so excited (video blog)

We’re So Excited!

With Heaven Fest right around the corner, the staff is so excited to see YOU there!

In the making of this video, we busted into a board meeting to politely ask the executive directors of Heaven Fest if they wouldn’t mind “getting excited” for Heaven Fest on camera. This transpired into an epic dance off. You never know what to expect at the Heaven Fest office!

After Party

Heaven Fest is only one day.  But it is one long, exciting, jam-packed day.  And if you don’t want to go home right away, you can stay and jam out with us until the wee hours of the morning.  That’s right, like any good party, we also have an AFTER PARTY!

Last year Transform DJs and Andy Hunter kept the hype of Heaven Fest going until 2:00 am with a rave-style glow party at the hip hop stage.  Glow sticks flew as people cheered and danced for LIFE!

This year, Sound the Ruin and The Conflict Between will rock your socks off with an after party from midnight to 2 am.  So take your naps now so you can pull a late one.  You never know who will show up.  We just might have some special guests drop in on the party!
