How to survive the heat at Heaven Fest!

Sound Advice from Vicki Swarr:  Heaven Fest Executive Director of Public Health and Safety!

We want everybody at Heaven Fest 2012 to be healthy and safe and we have got the tips!!

  • Bring your medications with you!  There will be dust: bring inhalers, allergy medicine and any other preventative medicine you need.
  • Prepare for the heat by drinking more water Thursday and Friday before the festival.  {July 26 and 27!}
  • Eat breakfast that morning – even if you don’t think you are a breakfast person!  Eat. already!
  • Wear a hat – please wear a hat!
  • Bring sunscreen and put it on before you step out of the car.
  • Drink water every hour of the day that you are at Heaven Fest.  Don’t worry; there are real bathrooms to use!  And lots of super-nice port-a-potties!!
  • Eat lunch at the festival!  Ovations at The Ranch is providing a great variety of food.  OR you can bring in a 12″ x 12″ x 12″ personal-sized cooler with your own lunch.
  • Put on more sunscreen every hour.
  • Getting bit by mosquitos?  Use bug spray!

Here are the FAQ’s!

How do I stay hydrated?

Easy!  Drink enough water so that your urine (pee) is clear.  You shouldn’t see it in the bowl.  Yup, that is a lot of water.  Wear a hat, use sunscreen:  all of the above.  If you are restricted from drinking a lot of water, please ask your doctor if it is safe for you to attend Heaven Fest.

I don’t like the taste of water….

Sorry, but water is the best for you in summer-time heat.  Skip the soda, nix the caffeine and drink your water. You can add fruit, lemons or limes.  It helps! Soda and sugary drinks (sports drinks too) are ok as long as you are drinking water too.

How will I know if I have sunstroke?

It starts with a headache for most people.

What do I do if I get a headache?

First drink a large amount of water.  Get out of the sun. Put ice on the back of your neck and wrists.  Sit down for a spell. Check out the venues in the buildings or visit the Chill Tent. If your symptoms progress or are not relieved by over the counter pain medicine, you may need to visit the nearest first aid station.

Does Heaven Fest have First Aid stations?

You bet and we would love to see everyone – but not because you didn’t drink enough fluids or forgot your inhaler!  Our goal is for God to be glorified in the worship of his people through music.  But we can take care of you if you need us.  Look for stations marked by a large white flag with a red cross.

Can I expect to get a ride to my car if I am tired?

Nope.  Heaven Fest is a huge festival!  You will have to walk and you will be tired.  We will have buses for transport to the parking lots but you will still need to walk a ways.  Handicapped parking is available with appropriate credentials.

Let’s get real.  Not everyone is healthy enough to withstand Colorado summer heat.  Not everyone can walk long distances.  We would be honored to have you attend Heaven Fest, but we would rather you stay healthy.  Please consider your choice to attend if you have a serious medical condition, recently been hospitalized, or have difficulty walking.
